Roots Pop

Singer-songwriter Shawn Pander weaves rich, roots-pop acoustic narratives with thick threads of unapologetic honesty and a deep appreciation of personal heritage. His latest collection, Black and White, recently surfaced in November 2015 and beautifully displays his lyrical ability.

Available on CD and via Itunes, the 11-song set ebbs from the hopeful, windows-down opener “West Coast Dream” to the soul-laced closing “Just Sing Along,” delivering sensuality (“Let Me Love You“) and tastes of country (“Don’t Cry for Me“) and blues (“It Ain’t Me Babe“) along the way.

Supporting Pander on this record are many uniquely talented friends. Performers include Jai Dillon (Mary Mary, Jason Mraz), Stefano Intelisano (Patty Griffin, The BoDeans), John Chipman (Band of Heathens, Jon Dee Graham), Ilya Janos KoloszJorge Castillo (The Drakes, George DeVore), Kevin Breit (Cassandra Wilson, Norah Jones), Lauren Silva and Beverley Knight.

Give the entire album a listen via Soundcloud.

Pander has also written and recorded the eponymous theme song for Tito Beveridge’s first original play, “This Side of The Dirt.” The well-received opening at the Austin Scottish Rite Theater in September 2015 led to a three-weekend run June 2 through June 18 at Dougherty Arts Center, complete with a live performance and scoring by Pander.

Pander will also take the stage at the 15th annual Austin City Limits Music Festival in October 2016.

“Shawn Pander is the most talented singer songwriter I’ve ever seen and heard. A needle in a haystack and a diamond in the rough. You need to hear this record.” – Brian Kaplan, VP at Emco / Tim McGraw

Texas Music magazine has dubbed Pander “a folk gem that improves with each listen…his music wouldn’t be out of place on a modern rock playlist next to John Mayer or Dave Matthews.”

“Shawn Pander has a great voice and this is a great song” – Ahmet Ertegun talking about Simplicity on AOL’s reality series The Biz

Following Pander’s 2006 performance on the Dr. Phil Show, producer Stephanie Granader said, “I would book him on the show again and again. He wowed our audience both times he appeared, fans flooded our website looking to buy ‘Simplicity.'” (That single can be found on Pander’s 2006 release, Memories 4 Sale, available on CD or via iTunes
