CAUGHT RED HANDED

Rye is finicky, tricky to work with.  It requires a space of its own, room and time for the peppery, spicy elaboration to bloom.  But when you stay awake at night thinking about how to make rye whiskey, when you bring to bear everything you and your team has learned about distilling, grains, about finishing, about life—when you create the space for rye to take a life of its own, the result is unique and complex drinking experience that some people prefer over all others.

You can’t create complex tastes without carefully chosen inputs.  Red Handed Rye starts with 80 percent two-year old Oz Tyler Bourbon, from Kentucky.  TA mash bill of 70 percent corn, 9 percent barley and 21 percent rye infuses the young bourbon with flavor.  After three years of soaking in oak barrels, catalyzed by the blazing Texas sun and cool Hill Country nights, a juicy, spicy whiskey is born.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE — Woody, rich pepper tones

PALATE — Fruity flavors with cherry and green apple crispness.

FINISH — High Rye component adds a complementary spice.
